mid-morning on Saturday, June 12, 2010. We will gladly make air, pre and post reservations for you at a hotel close to Frankfurt's Airport or in the city.
Day 1 Saturday, May 29, 2010
By mid-morning our tour will depart from Frankfurt's International Airport Terminal 2 (just
outside the arrival hall building) with our luxury "BEER" Company coach. We will travel
south on Germany's Autobahn up the Rhine River Valley and onto the scenic Black Forest
highway. The Black Forest region in the Southwestern part of Germany is covered with fir
trees and has picturesque villages famous for farmhouses with straw thatched roofs,
woodcarvings and cuckoo clock factories. After a typical light lunch we will travel on
to our final destination of the day, a romantic 4 star farm house Best Western hotel
near Lake Titisee. Here we will have our Welcome Party, dinner and overnight stay for
the next 2 nights. LD
Day 2 Sunday, May 30
After a lavish breakfast buffet, we will leisurely tour the scenic Black Forest area with
stops at Triberg and Germany's "highest" waterfall, the Black Forest Clock Museum and the
romantic Lake Titisee. Be sure to taste the famous Black Forest cake or perhaps purchase
for a later snack, the delicious Black Forest Ham. This evening, dinner is on your own.
Overnight in our local hotel. B
Day 3 Monday, May 31
Today we will leave for an all day trip into Switzerland with a stop at the magnificent
Rhine Waterfalls on the Swiss border. We will travel further on to historic Stein am
Rhein, a walled medieval Swiss town with colorful hand painted houses from the 14th
Century. We will have plenty of time for exploring and for an optional lunch before
travelling to our next destination, the Swiss Alpine village of Appenzell for our
next 2 nights' stay. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Saentis on the historic town square. BD
Day 4 Tuesday, June 1
By mid-morning we will tour the Swiss Alpine countryside with an optional cable car
trip to one of the nearby mountains and later visit a Swiss cheese making factory. We
will return by early evening to Appenzell, so perhaps you will have a chance for more
exploring and to have dinner on your own in one of the many local specialty restaurants.
Overnight at Hotel Saentis. B
Day 5 Wednesday, June 2
After our breakfast buffet we will leave for an exciting all day trip through the Eastern
Alps of Switzerland with a stop at the tiny principality of Liechtenstein. From there we
travel over high mountain passes in the Austrian Alps with many scenic stops to our next
destination, Fuessen in the Bavarian Alps. We will stay in this quaint city for the next
2 nights with dinner this evening at our 4 star "King Luitpold" hotel. BD
Day 6 Thursday, June 3
Today we will visit and tour the nearby King Ludwig's Fairytale Castle "Neuschwanstein"
and have time later in the afternoon for shopping and exploring the quaint village of
Fuessen. Dinner is optional tonight. B
Day 7 Friday, June 4, 2010
Today is the highlight of our tour. After an early breakfast, we will leave our Fuessen
hotel for our first stop, the famous "WIES" Pilgrimage Church, an exquisite rococo
structure and UNESCO World Heritage site. Our next stop will be the Abbey Etttal with
its roman baroque domed cathedral near Oberammergau. From there we plan to check into
our accommodations in the small village of Grasswang, just a few miles south of the
Passion Play Village.
The highlight today will be attending this year's "Passion Play" in the village of
Oberammergau. The Black Plague of 1632 miraculously stopped short of this Bavarian
village and from thence forth, the town's people vowed to enact the passion of Jesus
every ten years involving the local citizens in the elaborate all afternoon and evening
performance. Our seats are reserved for lunch and dinner as well as for the Passion Play.
We will return by coach late in the evening to our overnight stay in nearby Grasswang. BLD
Day 8 Saturday, June 5
After breakfast we will journey to Bavaria's capital of Munich. We will arrive there by
noon and have plenty of time for last minute gift shopping in the city's center. In the
evening we will have our farewell dinner with entertainment at Munich's famous Hofbrauhaus
before retiring at our 4-star hotel near the Munich main railway station. BD
Day 9 Sunday, June 6
In the morning we will transfer everyone to Munich's International Airport for return
flights home. Sadly we say "Auf Wiedersehn" and leave the beautiful Alpine countries
behind us, but we will return home with lots of new friends and unforgettable memories. B
