After booking my ticket to Longyearbyen, Norway I sat back and realized I would have 6 hours in JFK Airport. That spells NOT fun. Not enought time to go into New York City (who wants that hassle?) but too much time to stroll up and down Terminal 4.
I’m a medallion member with Delta, and very loyal to their skymiles program and do frequent their lounges. I also am very fond of the Delta Vacations product through MLT Vacations. Our agency books quite a bit with them, and they have a superb customer care team that still treats travel agents like royalty – plus not to mention the value in their vacation packages.
I did some research. Go to the Crown room with Delta or visit the Oasis, a business class lounge open to numerous travelers from various airlines.
I decided to give Oasis a try. it was at the other end of the terminal but well worth the short stroll. I entered in early, and it was still quite. The lounge faced the runway, and on a pretty sunny day like today it was nice to see to watch the flights head in and out. Internet Access is complimentary, and the bonus was the hot food, Hors d’oeuvres fresh fruit and salad. Oasis also had complimentary beer, wine and spirits and also a nice selection of hot teas and Starbucks coffee. I sat down at a complimentary computer and started working. Complimentary internet access? Yes! TVs and newspapers in numerous languages? Yes!
So what price did I pay for all this luxury to not sit and stare at travelers weary and bleary eyed waiting to catch their next flight? $45. It was well worth it. Delta charges $50 unless you pay $39 at the kiosk. But I liked the comfort and selection. If you have more than 3.5 hours in this busy airport then step over to the Oasis, you will be glad you did!
